Geography
Geographically, the prefecture of Chania is situated in the southern part of Greece. It is the western part of Crete and borders on the east with the prefecture of Rethimno.
It is considered the most beautiful part of the island and one of the richest parts of Greece in natural beauty.
The island has many remarkable characteristics. The White Mountain (2454m.) is the bulkiest mountain range of the island with a lot of tall mountain tops and geographic interest.
The most popular is the gorge of Samaria, the biggest in Europe, with length 16km and width from 3,5 to 500m.
The exotic beaches of the prefecture in areas such as the Falasarna, Mpalos, Elafonisi are a real challenge for the visitor.
The beautiful city of Chania is characterized as the jewel of Crete and holds a distinguished place among the Mediterranean cities.
